A relatively new approach to intaglio printmaking involves the use of Solarplates. Solarplates are polymer coated metal plates that are sensitive to ultraviolet light. An image is prepared on a transparent material then transferred to a Solarplate by exposure to a UV light source. No harmful chemicals are used in the development (etching) of these plates. Multicolor printing will be discussed and tried by ambitious participants. Previous intaglio experience is helpful, but is not required for this introductory class and returning students will advance their skills with new techniques.
